Select the Right Course:
It is your responsibility to select the proper course for your experience and conditioning. Please take this responsibility seriously.
- Do not place yourself and others at risk by entering a course that is beyond your level of skill or conditioning.
- Always check currents and weather and be aware of their effect on conditions (add links).
- Keep in mind that weather and water conditions can change rapidly, so be prepared to adjust your plans.
- If you determine during a race that you are at risk, turn around and return to land. Inform WaveChaser Staff that you have withdrawn and reached land safely.
Short Course
- The 4-6 mile short course is designed for novice-intermediate paddlers. The short course typically features mild ocean conditions with some wind, current and swell. The SUPs race will normally run within the short course.
Long Course
- Designed for expert paddlers, the long course is 9-12 miles long. The long course typically features rough water conditions, including wind and challenging currents, waves and swell. The long course is appropriate for those with rough water paddling experience. It is not appropriate for intermediate or entry level paddlers. Race organizers may set qualifying standards or use their discretion to limit participation in the long course in order to ensure the safety of all paddlers. Racers should plan to complete the course in less than two hours, or opt to race the short course.
